May 22, 2018 (CLEVELAND, OH)—Cleveland Soccer Club has announced a “Youth Soccer Night” promotion with America SCORES to take place June 17 during the club’s home match against FC Buffalo.
During the match, America SCORES, a program helping Cleveland youth lead healthy lives, be engaged students, and have the confidence and character to make a difference in the world, will be hosting a soccer cleat drive to help give local youth an opportunity to stay active and participate in soccer-related activities. All in attendance are invited to drop off used cleats at the America SCORES booth set up at the match.
In addition, all youth players who wear their club jerseys to the game will be admitted for free and youth soccer teams from around the area will be taking part in a halftime match on the field at Don Shula Stadium.
America SCORES has done tremendous work assisting children in learning the importance of learning through the beauty of sport,” said club president Sam Seibert. “Cleveland SC is a proud supporter of any group such as America SCORES that focuses on giving our youth the opportunity to achieve at the highest of levels in the classroom, soccer field or otherwise. Our team and staff are honored to host these young hardworking individuals June 17th.”
The match with FC Buffalo is scheduled to kick off at 2:00p.m., Sunday, June 17th.
“America SCORES is very excited to partner with Cleveland SC to inspire our poet-athletes to stay focused on the goal and achieve their dreams,” said America SCORES Cleveland Executive Director Debi Pence-Meyenberg.
According to Pence-Meyenberg, America SCORES is a sports-based youth development program which engages 1,000 Cleveland students in fitness and literacy activities throughout the year. Students, called “poet-athletes”, learn how to work as a team both on the soccer field and in the classroom.
Poet-athletes learn the sport of soccer while building healthier habits, develop creative writing skills culminating with a Poetry Slam, and gain self-confidence, teamwork and leadership skills throughout all programming.
