Once the Indians season is over and the offseason begins, fans will begin to have some concern. Mike Napoli and the Cleveland Indians have yet to agree on an extension for the future, thankfully both sides are willing to talk about an extension once the offseason begins.
Buster Olney reports that Mike Napoli and the Cleveland Indians are interested in seeing if they can work on an extension.
Olney had this to say about Mike Napoli and a possible extension:
“Napoli loves playing with the Indians and would love to stay, and the Indians love his production and leadership, not necessarily in that order. They also love his subtle competitiveness, which was evident early in the season. Napoli has a great respect for his manager, Terry Francona, and has a positive relationship with him.”
Napoli,34, signed a 1 year, $7 million deal with the Indians this past offseason. Napoli had a team high of 101 RBIs during the regular season , and was tied with Carlos Santana with 34 homers this season for the team high.
If Napoli and the Indians do not come to an agreement for an extension , Napoli would become a free agent.
If Napoli becomes a free agent he would be out there with fellow sluggers Edwin Encarnacion, Jose Bautista, Mark Trumbo, Matt Holliday, Pedro Alvarez, and many more. With this list of sluggers on the market , Napoli would not have as much leverage as he would if the list were much more slim.
It would be beneficial to both the Indians and Napoli if both sides came to an agreement on an extension.
