Browns

Are the Cleveland Browns Progressing or Regressing?

Cleveland could have said we can give you 20 million, we have an improved offensive line to protect you, would still have another 40 million in cap space to bring in other talent around you, an improving defense to get you the ball, and five draft picks in the first two rounds to also surround you with talent.

That becomes a selling point for a team that looks like it doesn’t have much to hang its hat on, not promoting a guy from the practice squad to starting WR that week. If they don’t want to go the free agency route they could have still drafted a QB with one of their top picks and the roster becomes better around that player and you had to deal with Kessler or that for one more season.

Maybe he would have had a good year and made a step forward. Who knows now? Instead the team is now possibly tied to Kizer and if they move on from him there goes another second round pick down the drain.

If they stick with him and avoid drafting a QB the ties of passing on your choice of any QB will come up. Not only that but what do you do if you get the number one pick? Usually that pick is reserved for top players and certain positions such as QB, OT, DE, and OLB.

Well the Browns would be set at most of those and good luck telling the fans you are taking a tackle number one overall or burying another guy on the depth chart. Instead you are probably going to be criticized again for trading down but hoping you can still get a Saquon Barkley at RB or a good secondary player with a current lack of great WRs at the top.

So will the front office finally use all the assets they have in cap space and draft picks and go after the big jump in 2018? Will they continue to try and move back and acquire more picks while keeping them in rebuild mode for another year and keep it closer to a four-five year rebuild? It is still too early to tell.
