Life as a professional athlete can be cruel with armchair coaches constantly analyzing everything you do. And it’s made worse in the age of social media, as fans have the means to berate you for your shortcomings with the push of a button.
So, when you miss two extra points and two field goals that cost your team a win like Cleveland Browns kicker Zane Gonzalez did yesterday, you can guarantee that fans are gonna let you hear it.
The only problem is, many angry Browns fans targeted their anger at the wrong Zane Gonzalez.
Meet Zane Gonzalez, assistant baseball coach for the Kalamazoo Growlers, who found his Sunday evening interrupted by an eruption of Twitter notifications from irate Browns fans thinking they had found Browns placekicker Zane Gonzalez.
Baseball coach Zane Gonzalez quickly let the mob know they had the wrong guy, attaching a screenshot of some of the targeted Tweets he had received. In one, a fan tells him he’s “got to go.” In another, a fan wishes terrible things upon Gonzalez like that he stubs his toe every morning for the rest of his life.

In the words of Allen from the movie The Hangover: “classic mix up.” For what it’s worth, Browns kicker Zane Gonzalez does have a Twitter of his own. Next time look for the blue checkmark.
