Preview

Both fighters come into this highly anticipated matchup brimming with confidence and a lot to gain. They both have stout wrestling backgrounds and will look use a combination of that along with strong striking and well-rounded submission, to take home the victory.

The 28-year-old, 125lb Jordan “Chino” Espinosa is fighting out of Luttrell/ Yee MMA.  Jordan will be the first to tell you that he feels his strongest asset is his wrestling skills and ground attack while he feels he has no weak areas.  We agree that his strongest asset is his wrestling skills considering he was a State Champion Wrestler at Mesa High School his Sophomore year, while also finishing runner up and third his junior and senior years as well.

His goal, simply put, is to break into the top 10 world ranking of the Flyweight Division.  Former UFC fighter Damacio Page was his assistant coach in high school.  When Espinosa graduated in 2008, he wasn’t competing in anything so he checked MMA out and fell in love with the sport.  He would have his first amateur fight the following June (09)

Much like his favorite fighters Frankie Edgar and Demetrious Johnson, Espinosa is lighting quick on his feet and with his hands.  Few can match his speed in that cage and he will need it against the dangerous CJ Hamilton.

As for Hamilton, he trains out of Contemporary Martial Arts Gym, and hold the exact same professional record as his opponent.  His strongest asset is also his wrestling skills, which should make for a mat classic between the two.  He does need to improve in finishing fights however, as he settles too often for beating the guy up, instead of putting him away.

If he does that against Espinosa, he may get caught.  He lands some great strikes, and has won two national wrestling championships, which helps him contain his opponents as well.  Over the last couple of years, his boxing and ground and pound games have both improved.

I reached out to his trainer, Chuck Cawthon who had this to say about his fighter’s chances against his upcoming opponent Jordan Espinosa, “We’ve been looking at Espinosa for a while, and I feel that there is no way we lose to him.  We should out strike him and with his strong wrestling game, it should cancel out submission attempts from Espinosa as well.”

Look for this one to go the distance, with plenty of time spent on the mat and a narrow decision to follow.  One thing is for sure, both men will absolutely bring it on March 3rd!
