Cleveland- In anything in life if you are missing the equivalent of your top three, or three best, it will be difficult to come out on top. That is what the Charge faced as they played the Delaware Blue Coats. The Blue Coats took advantage of the Charge missing All Star Guard Sharife Cooper (ankle), Isaiah Mobley (illness – non covid), and Sam Merrill (concussion). Losing that kind of offense, was going to be tough no matter who the Charge were playing and the Blue Coats feasted. Jumping out to leads as big as 25, the Blue Coats caused turnovers, and held the Charge to 5-30 shooting threes. In so many words, a recipe for disaster.
Having eight players be able to dress the Charge did all they could to keep the game close and interesting. But despite the loss, there were bright spots. Gabe Osabuohien had a career night as he set career highs in points with 20. He also chipped in 7 rebounds and two assist.
Talking with Gabe after the game, the biggest thing was playing with confidence, stepping up and bringing energy. Scoring 12 points in the second quarter, Gabe was the energy the Charge needed. He also provided defense on a longtime rival in Mac McClung who has a history with Gabe and you could tell both players wanted to get after each other. The big takeaway from Gabe is, “We’re looking forward to Wednesday.” He could not stress enough how having the team be full or close to full strength on Wednesday’s day game, would make an enormous difference. Wednesday is shaping up to be a fun game and atmosphere.
Jamorko Pickett led the Charge in scoring with 27 points and 7 rebounds. Chandler Vaudrin had an all-around game scoring 15 points to go along with 10 rebounds and 6 assist.
