Chardon tops Bedford, 56-6

CHARDON, Ohio- In tonight’s game the Bedford Bearcats traveled to take on Chardon Hilltopper’s for a post-season matchup. Bedford struggled towards the end of the season with injuries and the results of those injuries had them 1-3 to finish out the season after starting the season off 6-0.

As for the Hilltopper’s they finished the season off undefeated with a 10-0 regular season record, not only were these regular season games won they were not very close in score.

The Hilltopper’s won the coin toss and elected to kick the ball off first to Bedford.  But Bedford could not find anything in their first drive which led to a punt after three unsuccessful plays.

dscn0170Chardon opened their first drive of the game with a quarterback keeper in which Senior Tommy Benenati rushed for a gain of 42 yards, setting himself to get in position to score a touchdown off another quarterback rush for another 6 yards.

The next drive Bedford’s Arshaun Boone was sacked by the Hilltopper’s defense twice forcing another three and out for the Bearcat’s offense. unfortunately for the Bearcats they couldn’t even get the punt off due to a high snap, forcing to give the ball back to Chardon on their 18 yard line.

With the ball in wonderful position for the Hilltopper’s they executed a series of run plays they allowed Joe Dinko to find his way into the end zone off a 6 yard rush, taking the lead now to 14-0.

Chardon came out the 2nd quarter with the same mentality as they did in the first quarter, they came out running the ball  with big runs from quarterback Tommy Benenati (gain of 11 yards), followed by a big 64 yard run from scrimmage touchdown from Joe Dinko, bringing the score now to 21-0 early in the 2nd quarter.dscn0162

dscn0174The next drive for Bedford led to a punt but they were able to get their first, first down of the game.

Right after the punt Joe Cyvas was able to break for 81  yards on the first play of the drive but he was caught on the 3 yard line which set Joe Dinko to score another rushing touchdown in tonight’s matchup, tallying the score now 28-0.

Bedford turned the ball over on downs their next drive after Arshaun Boone connected with fellow Senior wide receiver Trent Cloud twice on the drive, one for 25 yards and the other for 10 yards.

And of course Chardon did not switch things up for the Bearcats they went with what worked throughout the game eat this point and ran the ball some more, quarterback Tommy Benenati broke for another 64 yards scoring a touchdown bringing the score now to 35-0.

dscn0166Arshaun Boone for the Bearcats seemed to be putting a drive together to get his team into scoring position but that when cornerback of Chardon Ethan Ziegenfuss intercepted a pass intended for Bedford’s Trent Cloud. The interception led to two big runs by Chardon’s QB Tommy Benenati one for  19 yards and then later on in the drive another for 17 yards, this allowed Sophomore Jon McKnight to walk in the end zone off a 9 yard rushing touchdown bringing the ledscn0119ad to 42-0 before halftime.

Bedford did not find a way into the end zone until the fourth quarter when Junior Lemuel McMichael scored off a 80 yard rush from scrimmage, missing the extra-point conversion. But not too long after Chardon’s Sophomore Andrew Kobuszewki found his way into the end zone off 23 yard rushing touchdown bringing the score now 56-6, leaving only 1:30 on the clock for the game.

Chardon won big over Bedford in tonight’s matchup and they will continue on it’s season run with a 11-0 record and advancing to the next round of OHSAA Division II playoffs to play Warren G. Harding, who tonight against Brecksville-Broadview Heights, 56-48.
