Sunday’s matinee game was a first glimpse of Cleveland’s (now beloved) defending NBA champions in action as they continue to prepare for the upcoming 2016-17 season.

Channing Frye opened up the festivities for Team Gold with back-to-back three-pointer’s, pushing their early lead to five. Team Gold continued their three-point barrage into the closing minutes of the first, besting Team Wine (18-14) at the horn.

As the second quarter progressed, Team Gold continued burying their three-point shots. However, Team Wine battled their way back to a five-point lead near the mid-way point of the quarter. With time waning, Kyrie Irving’s running lay-up pushed Team Wine’s lead to six at the break.

As the two sides took the floor for the final quarter, a back-and-forth battle ensued. After a go-ahead alley-oop from Irving to Iman Shumpert, Team Wine held a two-point lead. Not to be outdone, Team Gold fought their way back to a six-point lead with four minutes remaining. When the dust settled inside Quicken Loans Arena, Team Gold had carried the quarter and most of the day.

Today’s game ball goes to Mike Dunleavy.

His accuracy and range is sure to aid the Cavaliers this season as they look to defend their NBA championship winning season from last year. Dunleavy finished today’s scrimmage with 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting to lead Team Gold to victory.
