2. Free throw disparity
Despite getting 50 of their 94 points in the paint, The Cavs only shot 14 free throws on Sunday afternoon, compared to 32 for San Antonio. LeBron James attempted the most free throws on the Cavs with just four. After the game, when asked about the disparity, he said he thinks the league has changed its priority in what kind of shots they protect.
“I think we’re at a point now where we protect the shooter more than the driver,” James said. “There’s no reason I should be going to the line four times in a game when I drive a hundred times into the paint and am getting grabbed and whatnot. But we protect the shooter. That’s what it’s turned into. Chicks dig the long ball.”
This season James has shot 356 total free throws, meaning his per-game average is six attempts.
