The 2017 NBA Draft took place last night in Brooklyn, and while some huge moves were made around the league, the Cavaliers were left out of the action.
Due to trades over the years, the Cavs were left without any picks last night. They also missed out on any blockbuster trades involving Jimmy Butler or Paul George.
While talks involving George between the Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers stalled, Butler was traded to Minnesota in perhaps the biggest move of the night.
In return, the Bulls received Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn and the No. 7 overall pick in this year’s draft.
After all of the action last night, Cavs assistant general manager Koby Altman released a statement:
“We came into tonight’s NBA Draft with an opportunistic mindset should a situation develop for us to acquire any pick we felt would help improve our roster. While we had discussions specifically focused on acquiring picks tonight, we did not feel any of the draft-related options available to us created an opportunity to improve our team or tie into larger deals at this point. As we do year-round, our group will continue to creatively and aggressively evaluate and consider potential trades and free agent signings that would help us reach our singular goal of winning another NBA championship.”
