Key Match-Ups
Collin Sexton v Kyrie Irving and the rest of Bostons guards
With Collin Sexton not starting the game this match-up may not happen as much as fans would have hoped (Irving v Sexton), but again its only preseason. This will be the first test for the Rook and boy oh boy is it a test as the Celtics posses one of the deepest back courts in the NBA. With the ability to spell Irving with the likes of Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier the Celtics present a variety of different guards for Sexton to get his feet wet against. Cavs fans saw the aggressive style in which Sexton plays during the Summer League in July so it is safe to say Sexton won’t back down from the challenge tonight. One thing to keep an eye on with Sexton tonight is how he adjusts to adversity, whether its a turnover or a string a missed shots seeing how the Rookie comes back from the ups and downs of being a rookie PG.
Rodney Hood v Gordon Hayward
Last season when Rodeny Hood was acquired many had high hopes for the former Duke guard. Unfortunately for both Hood and Cavs fans things didn’t exactly pan out how everyone had envisioned, but that was last season. Tonight Hood begins his journey to regain the trust of Cavalier fans. Gordon Hayward on the other hand is two games into his return from that gruesome injury last fall, through two games he looks on track to be the Hayward of old. Which is a good thing for this match-up as these two former teammates have never played against each other, besides in practice in Utah. Hood and Hayward have the ability to light up the stat sheet, in ways besides just scoring, as both guys have the ability to serve as primary playmakers for theirs teams, but Hayward has the ability to share the load. While Hood will be tasked with being one of the Cavaliers main options on offense behind Kevin Love.
