CLEVELAND, OH – The 2016 NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers have signed guard Kay Felder, General Manager David Griffin announced today from Cleveland Clinic Courts.
Felder (5-9, 176), the No. 54 pick of the 2016 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks, had his rights acquired by the Cavaliers on draft night. He appeared in all seven games (six starts) for Cleveland in the Las Vegas Summer League and averaged 15.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.4 steals in 29.9 minutes per game.
The Detroit native was the only player in the country to rank in the Top 5 this past season in both scoring (fourth, 24.4 ppg) and assists (first, 9.3 apg) and became just the fifth player in Division I history over the last 20 years to average over 23 points and six assists in a single season. In 2015-16, Felder appeared in 35 contests for Oakland, averaging 24.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 9.3 assists and 2.0 steals, while shooting .848 from the charity stripe.
Over his three-year collegiate career at Oakland, he played in 101 games with averages of 17.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 7.8 assists and 1.6 steals in 35.9 minutes per game. He owns the Horizon League’s career assists mark with 788 over his tenure.
