The Cleveland Cavaliers and David Griffin have decided to part ways following a three-year partnership.
In May of 2014, Griffin was named the permanent general manager for the Cavs and will be general manager until June 30, 2017. Griffin is still under contract with the Cavs up until that date.
Griffin was the man behind signing David Blatt as the Cavs head coach during the 2014 season, signed LeBron James back to the Cavs four years after James made “The Decision”, and managed to acquire Kevin Love from the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett.
In the 2014-15 season, Griffin placed second in voting for the NBA Executive of the Year Award.
Griffin and the Cavaliers brought home the first NBA Championship to Cleveland last season when the Cavs defeated the Golden State Warriors in 7 games.
Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, had this to say about David Griffin and the organization parting ways:

With David Griffin and the Cavs parting ways that now makes the General Manager spot for the Cavaliers vacant. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, the position may be filled quicker than expected.

Billups has relationship with Dan Gilbert and Ty Lue, and sources say will be considered as President of Basketball Ops who'd make GM hire.

Cavs front office had difficulty in trade talks this week, constantly needing to address Griffin's future with rival executives. Tough spot.
