The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly going to reach a buyout agreement with point guard Deron Williams Thursday.
Williams has been on the radar of the Cleveland Cavaliers for the last two months, but the Mavericks didn’t find a trade partner.
Cleveland is still interested in acquiring Williams via free-agency and according to Sam Amico, the Cavs are going to express interest in him.

If Mavericks waive (not a buyout) Deron Williams, all signs point to DWill quickly working out a deal with the Cavs, per league sources.

Cleveland has one open roster spot from the deal to send Chris Andersen to Charlotte.
If the Cavs sign Williams and look to add a backup center, like Andrew Bogut or Larry Sanders, they would need to cut a player, as the time to trade one of the players on the back end of the bench came and went.
We’ll keep you posted on the Cavs’ upcoming free-agency moves as more news develops.
