Cleveland Oh. – So, after all that, the Cavs have clinched the playoffs and likely will be a top four seed. The Cavs beat the Pacers 129-120 behind Donovan Mitchell’s 33 points and Jarrett Allen double double 29 and 13 boards. The Cavs needed this win over the Pacers to gain control and make sure they stay out of the Play-In.

The Cavs came out strong scoring 35 points in the opening quarter. There was a sense of urgency the Cavs played with for the first time in a while. It led to a 14-point first half lead that the Cavs never relinquished. While the Pacers did make a run, the Cavs were able to answer the call every turn led by Mitchell and Allen.

Mitchell said after the game “I have run out of ways to describe Jarrett Allen. I feel like he is one of the most important, if not the most important player.” While most would say Mitchell is the most important, there has to be something said for Allen. Besides the first five games, Allen has played in every game. While he said “I’m exhausted” he knows he has a job to do and will continue to show up night in and night out.

Coach JB Bickerstaff has said in the past, “The fact that I know Jarrett Allen is on this team helps me sleep better.”  The notoriety is warranted. Mitchell has said numerous times, Allen should have been an all-star. He is now letting everyone know he feels Allen should be on the defensive team. Asked after the game how that makes him feel Allen said “My teammates push me, and it does make me try even harder. It feels good and I appreciate when they say JA, you’re underappreciated.” Tonight, Allen wasn’t underappreciated. Only missing one shot, Allen kept the Cavs afloat, and Mitchell closed the door.

This is a Pacers team the Cavs could very well see in the first round of the playoffs. There are a lot of different scenarios at play here, the Cavs can still end up as high as the two seed. A win Sunday over the Hornets has to happen, but there are so many possibilities. I asked Allen after the game does he know all the scenarios and he responded, “It’s like a calculus test man. I can’t keep up” All that needs to be said is for a night, the Cavs have clinched a spot in the playoffs. They can breathe a little easier. They can win the division Sunday with a win over the Hornets. Everything is still in front of them. Here is where the “season” starts. Mitchell said after the game, “This is what’s supposed to happen.” Well, we are here. Now let’s go to work!
