2. LeBron running the show
The LeBron James at point guard experiment worked about as well as pretty much everyone expected it to. James ended the game with game-highs in both points (34) and assists (13). This is all the more impressive when you consider the fact that, according to Elias, James hasn’t officially been listed as a guard since 2012 in Miami.
As a whole, the Cavs assisted on 28 of their 43 made baskets, meaning James had nearly half of the team’s assists.
With James at point, the team seemed to get more of the looks on offense that Lue would have preferred they got in that Orlando game. James of course has no problem attacking the paint, or dishing it out if need be.
In his 771st regular game as a Cavalier (tying Zydrunas Ilgauskas for the franchise record) James showed exactly why he is capable of doing what he does night in and night out. His ability to seamlessly transition from forward to guard is what makes him, as Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg said, “the best player on the planet.”
“Ever since I was a kid I’ve always learned every position on the floor,” James said. “The point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward and center. And know all the plays, what they’re doing and reads. Coach slides me to the 1, I know every set. If he slides me to the 5, I know the 5. I know the 4. I know the 3. I know the 2.
“I know every single play in every single position, so it makes the job a lot easier for me because I know where I should be and what my teammates should do.”
