Cavaliers top Bulls 119-112 after gaining first lead in second half; three takeaways

1. The Bench

Lue made no bones about it when he came into his post-game press conference: The Cavs’ bench saved the game on Tuesday night.

The bench combined for 46 points, shooting 16-of-26 from the field and hit five three pointers. Tuesday marked the third straight game the Cavaliers’ bench has scored 45 or more points. The star of the reserves was Jeff Green, who recorded 16 points. Dwyane Wade and Kyle Korver also scored in double-digits with 11 points apiece.

“The bench won us the game, they get the game ball for sure,” LeBron James said. “We fed off that energy.”

Their play was especially huge, considering the Cavs got off to another slow start similar to the Orlando Magic game on Saturday. As a whole, Cleveland gave up 17 total threes, and didn’t gain a lead until 8:50 remained in the third quarter.

“Thank god for our bench tonight, which was great, but we gotta be better,” Lue said.

“Our whole bench was great. Channing [Frye] was great, D-Wade, Korver, [Iman Shumpert], Jeff. They all were great for us tonight. They bailed us out. And we talked about that in the locker room, that they came in and played great because we had a slow start again and we can’t continue to keep doing that.”
