The Cleveland Cavaliers have added another name to their coaching search, Spurs assistant Ettore Messina.
The Cavs have now interviewed six candidates including Messina, fellow Spurs assistant Ime Udoka, former Memphis coach J.B. Bickerstaff, Utah assistant Alex Jensen, Dallas assistant Jamahl Mosley, and Miami assistant Juwan Howard.
Before joining San Antonio in 2014, Messina coached throughout Europe, with over 30 years of coaching experience. Messina is considered one of the greatest European coaches of all time and many around the NBA feel like it’s his turn to get a head coaching job.
He’s an intriguing candidate as a someone who has had the chance to learn from Gregg Popovich, while also already having his own head coaching experience.
Check out the video below to listen to Messina talk about his coaching philosophy, it’s worth the watch if you want to have an idea of what the Cavaliers team could look like under Messina.
The Cavaliers have also been granted permission to interview Denver assistant’s Wes Unseld and Jordi Fernandez, and Portland assistant’s David Vanterpool and Nate Tibbetts.
