INDEPENDENCE, OHIO – Some familiar faces reunited at the Cavaliers practice facilities in Independence today as it was Media Day all around the NBA.
Team leader LeBron James, budding superstar Kyrie Irving and star power forward Kevin Love were all smiles, posing for group photos after they each answered questions in individual press conferences.
J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert, “The New York Boys” joked around with the media and their teammates.
Russian centers Timofey Mozgov and newly acquired Sasha Kaun were in the building, and coach David Blatt told reporters, “I’m not trying to recreate the Russian National Team.”
Among the other Cavaliers in attendance were Joe Harris, Matthew Dellavedova, James Jones, Anderson Varejao, newly acquired veteran small forward Richard Jefferson, and new addition, but no stranger to Cleveland, Mo Williams.
One face that was not present, and perhaps the most talked about topic of the day, was Tristan Thompson.
Thompson and the Cavaliers have not reached an agreement on a contract extension, but general manager David Griffin and coach David Blatt were insistent that Thompson will be a Cavalier going forward.
“I’m very confident that we’re going to have a terrific team that Tristan will be a part of” Griffin told reporters.
James echoed the sentiments of the coach and front office telling the media, “The organization will get something done because they know how important he is to our success.”
