The Cavaliers have signed 20-year-oldBilly Preston to a two-way contract, according to general manager Koby Altman.
Present did not get drafted last month in the NBA Draft, likely due to his issues off the court which included an investigation NCAA investigation into the financing of a car he crashed.
He as a McDonald’s All-American in high school and went to Kansas last year, but never played after the NCAA investigation, but was still touted as one of the most highly regarded power forward recruits in the country out of Oak Hill Academy when he arrived at Kansas.
Preston then left Kansas and inked a deal with KK Igokea of the Basketball Championship of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He played only three games there before leaving the Bosnian club in March and he returning to the United States because of a shoulder injury.
He got invited to the NBA’s scouting combine and multiple pre-draft workouts, but the Cavs snatched him up and he’s already in Las Vegas playing alongside this year’s first-round pick Collin Sexton.
If nothing else, it’s an interesting move for a team that now is looking to rebuild with the departure of LeBron James, and for at least one night puts the Cavs back in the headlines as they hope they have found a player that can make an impact on the roster.
