1. Limit the Greek Freak
They don’t call him a freak for nothing. Giannis Antetokounmpo led all scorers on Wednesday night against Boston with 37 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. He also dished out three assists and recorded three steals.
The key to stopping Antetokounmpo is limiting his attacks to the rim and getting in front of him in transition– but he’s probably still going to drop more than 20 points easily. While the Cavs will have arguably their best defender, Jae Crowder, on him to start, the Greek Freak’s length still makes defending him a tall order. Don’t be surprised if we see LeBron James switched onto him at some point.
“He’s really gotten good,” Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue said when asked about Antetokounmpo on Thursday. “Came into the league young, athletic. But now he’s really figured it out, like who he is and how to play, making guys better, rebounding the basketball. He’s a complete player. So he’s tough to guard, a lot like LeBron in transition as far as pushing the ball, attacking the basket, getting into the paint. He’s really developed into a great player.”

While there may be no concrete ways to stop him, the key will be for the other Cavs’ defenders to get into passing lanes and prevent the other Bucks from going on a scoring run. Giannis is a force to be reckoned with, but if you can prevent him from making those around him better, that’s arguably your best bet.
