2. The point guard situation
The Cavs are currently down three point guards, as evident by the injury report.
While Jose Calderon is starting, the bulk of the Cavs’ playmaking is likely going to come from LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. James was dominant in the final two games against the Pistons last year, recording a triple-double in each of those contests (29 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists on March 9 in Detroit; 16 points, 11 rebounds, 12 assists on March 14 in Cleveland). He has five triple-doubles against the Pistons throughout his career.
Wade will likely play a lot of minutes again tonight, especially when you consider the matchup with Reggie Jackson. Against the Los Angeles Clippers, Wade recorded his second double-double of the 2017-18 season with 23 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and two blocks while playing a season-high 37 minutes.
After the game, Wade said that the Cavs are better when they are controlling the pace of the game.
“We’re one of the oldest teams in the league. We’re not built for all of this,” Wade said. “We’re built for when the game slows down— and late in games, the game slows down, and that’s kind of when we’re at our best.”
