2. Perimeter defense
For as annoyed as Lue was with his team’s perimeter defense in last night’s win against Chicago, it is highly likely that his annoyance has grown exponentially with tonight’s loss.
For the third straight game, the Cavs gave up 17 three-pointers as they allowed Brooklyn to go 17-of-46 from deep. In their one-on-one defense, Cleveland continues to sag off of shooters too deep inside the arc and aren’t contesting every attempt.
It’s only fitting that in this loss, the most important play for the Nets was arguably Dinwiddie’s three with under a minute to go.
The Cavs made just 12 threes in comparison, showing that they are not yet at the same level that they have been over the last few years when it comes to the deep ball. Until they get there, their defense needs to greatly improve in the meantime.
