This doesn’t mean any trades are imminent, but Carmelo Anthony is willing to waive his no trade clause for two NBA teams: the Cavs and Clippers.
Part of that is likely attributed to the fact that those two teams have realistic hopes of winning a championship and the Knicks have continued their cycle of mediocrity.
It also doesn’t hurt that two of Melo’s close friends, LeBron James and Chris Paul, play for the Cavs and Clippers.
The Cavs seem to be doing just fine without Melo, but if the Clippers were somehow able to land him without giving up too much, it could make a difference in how far the team goes in the Western Conference Playoffs.
This is just speculation on my part, but unless Blake Griffin is involved in a trade to New York, it makes little sense for the Knicks to ship Melo to the Clippers, who don’t have many enticing draft picks or young assets.
