Eastlake- In a game that featured the Captains starting pitcher being thrown out, a manager getting tossed for the second straight game, pitchers called for balks with the bases loaded, the Captains somehow managed to squeak out a much-needed win over the Loons 6-5.
The game was highly anticipated for the Loons as they saw the debut of first round pitcher and top prospect Maddux Bruns. The Captains took advantage of him in the second inning as Christian Cairo hit a three-run homer to deep right center field. That gave the Captains their first lead of the game, and of the series. They would not give the lead up. but there was still some drama. In the 4th inning, starting Captains pitcher Aaron Davenport got into it with 1st base Umpire Josiah Sheperd and was tossed. In the bottom of the 4th, Loons manager Daniel Nava was tossed for arguing with home plate umpire Kenny Jackson. This was the second game in a row Nava was ejected. The game got weirder in the 5th inning when Sergio Morillo was called for 3 Balks that got the Loons 2 runs without swinging the bats. But the Captains held on despite the wacky game. Breaking a 3-game slide, the Captains needed this game if for nothing else than their confidence. The Loons were coming in hot and had completely dominated the series to this point, but the Captains battled back and got the much-needed win.
The Captains look to build on the win, Friday night as they take on the Loons again. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm.
