Eastlake – The Lake County Captains returned home to Classic Park Tuesday night to begin a six game homestand against the Miami Marlins high Single A affiliate, the Beloit Sky Carps.
Celebrating Christmas in July at the ballpark, the Captains defeated the Sky Carps, 2-1.
The Captains got on the scoreboard early in the first inning when Guardians top 30 prospect Joe Lampe drove in Milan Tolentino to take a 1-0 lead.
The Captains took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when catcher Joe Donovan hit a solo home run over the left field fence.
The Captains would give up a solo home run to Osiris Johnson in the sixth inning as the Sky Carps made it a one run ball game.
Aaron Davenport pitched the first seven innings for the Captains, giving up only one run and striking out five.
The Captains bullpen finished the game as Lenny Torres threw a scoreless eighth inning and Magnus Ellerts pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his third save of the season.
On the night, the Captains had 11 hits with Joe Donovan (2-3, home run), Dayan Frias (2-4), and Milan Tolentino (2-4) all having multiple hit games.
The Captains return to Classic Park at 11:05am on Wednesday morning as they host Camp Day at the ballpark.
The Captains have a lot of fun events and promotions planned for the week. ON Thursday spectators can bring their dog to Classic Park for the game. Also, on Friday night, the Captains will have a post-game fireworks show.
Saturday, the first 1,000 fans to attend the game will receive a Jose Ramirez Bobblehead.
In 2012, Ramirez began his professional baseball career with Captains. In 67 games with the Captains, Ramirez batted .354, with 3 home runs and 27 RBI.
The Captains end their six game homestand with the Sky Carps on Sunday as they will celebrate Cleveland Sports History Night, 20th Anniversary Edition, in which the Captains will celebrate their 20th year at Classic Park.
