Eastlake – The Captains couldn’t get anything going tonight against the Great Lake Loons falling 4-1 to open a 6-game series. Coming into tonight’s matchup, the Captains were a top 5 team in runs scored and have been good producing runs. Tonight though, the Loons Justin Wrobleski got off to a strong start on the mound as pitched 4 scoreless innings. The game was all Loons as the Captains fell behind early on a bases clearing single from Austin Gauthier to bring in 2 runs for the Loons. Dalton Rushing hit a Home Run in the 5th inning to provide extra insurance.
Both starting pitchers Wrobleski for the Loons and Rodney Boone for the Captains started off strong in the first inning. In the second inning, Boone and the Loons Chris Alleyne got into a plate battle that resulted in Alleyne hitting was initially called a HR by the Home Plate Umpire Ken Jackson. Captains Manager Omir Santos came out and challenged the call and it was determined it was foul. That seemed to change the momentum as Alleyne was upset, his HR was taken away and he drew a walk from Boone. From there, the Loons played with momentum and Boone seemingly fell out of rhythm. Jorge Burgos scored the Captains only run in the 9th inning on a sac fly from Dayan Frias.
