5. California love from USC. Ronald Jones II has nice speed and when he makes a cutback, he will make a lot of defenders look like they were trying to tackle a ghost. Despite his lean frame, Jones keeps his legs moving. Two issues that I read about Jones. First, his small frame probably won’t allow him to carry the ball a lot throughout one full season and to add to that, he doesn’t shy away from a lot of rough contact. I’m going to guess that Ronald Jones II could fall to the mid to late second round.
6. Georgia adds another to this list with Nick Chubb. While Chubb doesn’t have the speed to break away from faster defenders, he is more of a physical back. I also didn’t notice Chubb catching the ball out of the backfield either. From what I’ve read, he’ll be available in the third or fourth round. I’d like to think that the Browns would already have found their guy at this point.
WHY A RUNNING BACK SO HIGH?
I’m very tired of hearing people say, you don’t take a running back at #1 or high in the draft, tell that to Dallas, Jacksonville and Minnesota. Cleveland is in desperate need of play makers on both sides of the ball, but especially on offense. Who is a quarterback’s best friend? A quality running back. Despite the league being a passing league, what do you still need to be able to do, especially in the rugged AFC North? Run the ball.
Right now, I’m not head over heals about any of these quarterbacks coming out. When I wrote the other day about the Browns taking Sam Darnold, it’s because I truly believe they’re taking a QB at #1. I also wrote that I preferred Barkley, then, with their next pick, they take the best player available again. Keep doing that for the first few rounds. I’m confident they’ll have more success in 2018 if they do that.
