2018 DRAFT CLASS POSSIBILITIES
Here are my picks for who the Browns could take. This year’s class is deep and talented. Six of the first ten RB’s are game changers in my book, but, that’s on paper. The draft, as everyone should know, is a crap shoot.
1. The best overall talent in this years’ draft is Saquon Barkley from Penn State. Most of the experts are saying Barkley is a better prospect than Ezekiel Elliott and he could be just as good, maybe better, than Leonard Fournette and Todd Gurley. Saquon has everything an NFL team looks for in a running back these days.
I realize that this is all speculation at this point, but he’s the safest pick at #1 for me. Cleveland has two reasons to take Barkley with the first pick. Barkley is the safest and overall best player in this draft. Some might argue that the Browns don’t have the offensive line yet to help out a running back. While I can’t argue against how the Browns O-line looked last season, I fully expect them to be improved AND if Duke Johnson can run behind that same offensive line, I’d love to see what Barkley can do.
2. I had a chance to check out some video of Georgia RB Sony Michel. I won’t lie, I was very impressed with his overall game. If Cleveland doesn’t draft Barkley at #1, because I don’t see the Colts passing on him at #3, Michel would be my next option. Great speed, power and the ability the catch the ball, all again things every NFL team wants in their rung backs. He can do it. My guess, in terms of what separates Michel from Barkley? Probably experience and splitting time down in Georgia’s backfield with Nick Chubb.
3. From a Bulldog to a Tiger. Kerryon Johnson will be another option for the Orange helmets. Again, another RB that has speed and some power. Johnson is also very shifty and will make people miss. And yes, Kerryon can also catch the ball. One weakness pointed out by the scouts, is his durability issue. If the Browns want to wait to draft a RB in round two, he might still be there.
4. Wait just a minute! Another Tiger? Yes, but this time, from LSU, Derrius Guice. If Cleveland wants to add another physical type runner, but with a bit more speed, Guice isn’t a bad option. When watching Derrius run, I’ve noticed that he looks for contact. Something that isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but as a draft profile pointed out that I only noticed after watching additional footage, as Guice can sometimes look to make contact with a defender versus running towards the open portion of the field. He could also run into more injury issues with the way he loves to run and run people over.
