Overall team confidence played a huge part in a win today for Buckeye Valley.
It was a 51-25 victory for the Barons, with three players scoring in double digits. Dylan Herbert had 15 to lead the Barons, with Stone Foltz and Austin Richard each adding 10. Clark Newland was a point away from getting into the double digits, finishing with nine.
Foltz hit two threes in the second quarter on the way to building a 30-5 halftime lead.
“The teams motivation was really high, everybody’s confidence was helping me build my confidence,” Foltz said after the game.
The confidence was high for Richard as well. He spoke highly of his teammates when asked about how he got his points.
“My points came from my teammates.”
Centerburg finally got a spark in the third quarter, scoring 11 points, and finishing off the quarter trailing 42-16. They matched Buckeye Valley with nine points in the fourth quarter, with the final being 51-25.
“We try to talk to the players a lot about playing their strengths and playing their roles,” head coach Andy Gast said after the game.
Gast added that Richard and Foltz were playing to their strengths, but he also said their were some negatives, mainly that the Barons had 23 turnovers..
The win will be a motivator for the Barons, as they play Marion Harding on Jan. 4, the fourth of five straight road games for Buckeye Valley. Centerburg will play Northmor on Jan. 5, the first of four road games.
