CLEVELAND, OH – It’s like a bad movie that never seems to end, and there seems to be no solution in sight as to how to change it and why it keeps happening.
Once again on Sunday Cleveland Browns quarterbacks took a beating at the hands of their rival the Pittsburgh Steelers, getting sacked eight times for 70 yards and taking a number of other vicious shots during the teams’ 24-9 loss to drop to 0-11.
Cody Kessler left the game on the final play of the third quarter when he was pulled down from behind by former Ohio State Buckeye and current Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier with a possible concussion, and then in the final quarter Josh McCown took a number of hits as he was sacked four times in the final 15 minutes.
One Browns player who wasn’t afraid to speak out after the game about the hits, as well as seeing his quarterbacks week after week get pounded was wide out Terrelle Pryor, who caught five passes for 97 yards in the loss.
“I’m tired of our guys getting hit, and I am nobody to complain because I don’t run it, but it’s personal to me because I care for those guys, and I don’t like seeing them get hit like that – point blank period, someone has to say it, and I’m going to say it,” Pryor said.
Pryor has been upfront all season about the frustration he and the team have had about losing week after week, but doesn’t shy away about stating he feels that the culture about the Browns has to change, and the players have to be more accountable for their actions allowing their teammates to get injured and hit.
“It’s got to change, I know coach Hue (Jackson) is putting us in a situation, but I just know we can’t keep getting our quarterbacks hit,” Pryor said.
“Whoever is giving up the blocks, they need to stop that s$it.”
Pryor likes to trade barbs during the game, and Sunday he was in no mood to apologize about it, saying that whatever he does it’s all about trying to help his team win, and being a good teammate as well.
“Do I talk on the sidelines? Of course, I feel I know I am a great teammate, I just want to win, that’s what it comes down to,” Pryor said.
“We got another opportunity next week at home, I am tired of letting our fans down.”
With five weeks left the Browns are in a situation where it looks like they might not get in the win column all season. Don’t expect Pryor to keep quiet about his frustration with seeing his teammates and friends get injured, as he watched today with Kessler.
“Somebody has to stay it, I’m tired of our quarterbacks getting hit,” Pryor said. “I take it very seriously this game, and I love every moment of it. I love to compete, I love to play, and it sometimes gets the best of me.”
