The Cleveland Browns are slowly improving on both the defensive and offensive sides of the football. On Friday, the Browns improved their offense by getting a key member back onto the field.
Wide receiver Josh Gordon played in his first football game since 2014. Last year he was suspended for the entire 2015 season after violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. Gordon won his appeal this August and will play in 2016 but he is still suspended for the first four games.
Head coach Hue Jackson told the media after the game that he was truly excited to get Gordon back on the football field saying:
He made a tremendous play. It was good to get him back out there in a game and playing. He did some good things and there are some things that we will continue to improve on with him. I thought it was a good start for him.
Gordon not only had two tremendous plays, he had a tremendous game overall. He finished the game catching two passes for 87 yards and a touchdown. This rapport between quarterback Robert Griffin III and Gordon will help this offense become one of the best in the NFL.
This game really gave motivation to the young receiver and the entire team. Gordon talked to the media after the game and was very excited to get back to playing what he loves: football.
It gave me a boost. It gave the team a boost. Get that experience again, get that feeling again what it feels like to make a big play. It was great. I think it was uplifting for the team. It was something that we needed at that point in time in the game and something that we can build on going into next week.
Gordon continued by saying that he missed football and had a “wonderful time”.
It was definitely something that I missed. I haven’t had the opportunity to do for a long time but I was happy to be out there. Excited. I had a wonderful time, he continued. It felt great. I feel really good to be out there with my teammates, all of my friends right here, my brothers. It was uplifting. It was a really good experience for me to get. I enjoyed myself.
It truly is excellent to see a player get back on the football field after making a big mistake. Not only did he show up to play he showed that he still has what it takes to become a dominant receiver in the National Football League.
The Browns should be excited about the upcoming season because of how great their offense looks. They sure seem poised for a breakout year. Go Browns!
