Former Browns offensive lineman and color commentator Doug Dieken once told me he’s probably seen more Browns football live than any other person on the planet.
Combine his playing career with his close to 30 years in the radio booth, and Dieken has seen quite a bit of Browns football live in his lifetime.
Sunday, he will not be in London with the team, as Browns.com reports the popular color man didn’t make the trip overseas with the team.
“We understand Diek’s a little under the weather and his doctor didn’t want him to travel. In talking to him, he was pretty upset but he’s confident that he will back to our broadcast soon,” senior vice president of communications Peter John-Baptiste said.
Dieken did miss one game in his broadcasting career, that being a game in Tampa against the Buccaneers back during the 1989 season. He played on the offensive line for the Browns for 14 seasons until 1985, and made the transition to the booth after that.
The sixth-round pick of the Browns in 1971 played in a franchise record 203 consecutive games.
His place in the booth will be taken by Nathan Zegura, who hosts the show ‘Cleveland Browns Daily’ Monday through Friday on AM 850 WKNR.
