Well, this one got ugly in a hurry.
The Cleveland Browns trail the Houston Texans 24-3 at halftime at to be quite frank, there is nothing positive about this Cleveland performance. Let’s get into the takeaways for this one, as Houston is having their way with this ball club.
1. Watson Making Browns Pay- Deshaun Watson is having a ball out there on the field today, making the Browns really regret not taking him 12th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. Watson hasn’t had to do much due to Kevin Hogan giving the ball away to the Texans’ defense, but he still has gone 9-16 for 154 passing yards and two touchdowns. Yeah, something tells me the Browns won’t be hearing any positive talk about their most recent draft anytime soon.
2. Hogan, Kizer…It Doesn’t Matter- Kevin Hogan became the 28th starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns since the franchise returned and he was nowhere near good. Heck, being average would have been a good half for Hogan.
The Stanford product threw three interceptions in the first half, including a pick-six to cornerback Johnathan Joseph. Hogan has gone 11-21 and has only mustered up 78 yards. Absolutely pitiful.
3. Defensive Breakdowns Continue- Remember when the Browns could have drafted Deshaun Watson but opted to move back down to the 25th pick to also acquire another first-rounder for next year? That pick became Jabrill Peppers, who has looked lost in coverage all day. The most notable breakdown in coverage was when Will Fuller V found an easy walk to the end zone when Peppers was nowhere to be found in coverage. The defense has been downright bad and somebody will be in trouble after this game. The question remains who.
