The Cleveland Browns have signed cornerback E.J. Gaines, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported on Friday. The move is just another one that strengthens the rebuilt secondary John Dorsey and company have put together this off-season.

Gaines has a proven track record as a starting NFL corner, starting in all but one of the games he’s appeared in. In thirty-six starts for the Rams and Bills combined, Gaines has compiled three interceptions, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and 158 tackles. A three-year pro out of Missouri, Gaines has always been an excellent tackler. His ability to halt big plays is something very much needed in Cleveland, where game-changing plays got past the last wave of defenders.
Gaines played for Cleveland defensive coordinator Gregg Williams in Saint Louis, which might have been a determining factor in his decision to join the Browns. Williams now has a corner in which he knows the talent of the player before they play a down with the Browns.
