21 years ago today the coach many feel should rival the likes of Paul Brown and Vince Lombardi was shown the door by then owner Art Modell.
Bill Belichick, who now boasts five Super Bowl rings as the leader of the New England Patriots, was fired on this day 21 years ago – but the question that has to be asked – was he fired by the Browns – or the Ravens?
ESPN’s tweet stating he was fired by the Browns brings up an interesting debate – did Belichick get fired by the Browns, or by the Ravens?

Remember the Browns official move to Baltimore took place AFTER the 2005 season, leaving them dormant for the 1996, 97 and 98 seasons.
Belichick getting canned on February 15th in favor of veteran coach Ted Marchibroda was not that much of a stunner based on the fact the team went 5-11 in 1995, but now knowing the history of Belichick it seems like yet another super blunder by Modell.
But by the time Belichick was canned, he was already entrenched in Baltimore trying to get the football team back to form after a disaster of a 1995 season.
So while it’s probably nothing more than ‘who cares anyway’ question, should the Browns take the hit for having fired a coach that is surly going to be a first ballot Hall of Famer?
After all, the team already has that on their resume when Modell canned Paul Brown back in January of 1963.
