5) Slow Your Roll
It’s said quite a bit that the NFL is a week-to-week league. Players and coaches are judged based on what they do on a weekly basis. So, naturally, after leading the Browns to back-to-back wins for the first time in three years, momentum was building for interim head coach Gregg Williams to keep the job full-time after the season.
While the feeling is understandable, it’s also a bit premature. Three games into Williams stint as interim head coach is way too early to crown him the best candidate for the job. He’s certainly getting a lot out of this roster and has had more success already in three weeks than his predecessor Hue Jackson. But that’s exactly the problem.
The man before him was so incompetent that Browns fans have grown so desperate for any ounce of success from a head coach. They’ve seen some from Williams, yes, but it’s much too soon to just cling to the first competent coach in the building in several years just because he’s exceeding the very low bar set by Jackson. Let this thing play out.
