The Browns have to be intrigued about the latest firing in NFL circles, as earlier today the Packers announced they have parted ways with longtime head coach Mike McCarthy.
Green Bay fired McCarthy basically immediately after the team lost a home game to the Arizona Cardinals 20-17, dropping the team to 4-7-1 on the season, and pretty much out of the playoff race in the NFC.
Fansided is reporting that the Browns are already looking into their options about McCarthy, figuring things out in regards to chatting with him or not.
Sources have told FanSided that the Browns are already working on whether they will hire McCarthy. McCarthy has obvious ties to the Cleveland front office, most-notably general manager John Dorsey, vice president of player personnel Alonzo Highsmith and assistant general manager Eliot Wolf.
All three worked in Green Bay while McCarthy was in the building, with Highsmith and Wolf being there until joining Dorsey in Cleveland in December.
McCarthy is just 55 years old, so there’s no doubt he’s not going to be out of a job for very long, but he might want to wait until ‘Black Monday’ (the day after the season when coaches normally get canned) to see what other options are out there.
The Browns sound like they are ready to be aggressive in going after him, and now it’s up to McCarthy if he wants to come in right away or hang back and spend some time enjoying the roses after getting fired.
