The Browns have signed WR Josh Boyce, a former fourth-round pick of the New England Patriots. NFL.com talks about the pickup and how it could impact the Browns offense.
Boyce is 5-11, 205 pounds and officially in his second season out of TCU. Originally selected by New England in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft, Boyce has appeared in 10 games with three starts. He has totaled nine receptions for 121 yards. He has spent most of 2016 with the Colts prior to being waived on Aug. 16. A native of Copperas Cove, Texas, he graduated from Copperas Cove High School.
The 5-11 wideout enters the mix at a time of great excitement but great uncertainty in Cleveland. Perhaps Jackson can find a more productive outlet for Boyce’s combination of speed and hands. His arrival could also be a challenge to Taylor Gabriel, who occupies a similar role in the offense at the moment.
We will see if Gabriel is challenged with the pickup of Boyce, and if he’s good enough to truly challenge him in the remainder of the preseason and practices.
With Boyce aboard, the team waived/injured WR Dennis Parks. Parks was signed by the Browns this last May.
