The Browns have agreed to terms with number one overall pick Baker Mayfield, coming to terms on a four-year deal worth $32.68 million.
The contract is fully guaranteed with a $21.85 million signing Bonus per Ian Rapoport, NFL Network.
With training camp beginning Thursday in Berea the Browns wanted to make sure they lock up their number one overall pick.
It is well known that QB Tyrod Taylor is slated to be the opening day starter for the Browns. In fact, head coach Hue Jackson is on record saying that Tyrod is the starter.
Mayfield will enter his first NFL training camp as the backup to Taylor, but the question is, will the Browns stay patient, and how many games will they keep him on the bench?
This is why the Browns traded for Taylor, the idea being that Taylor will be the starter for this season with Baker learning and waiting for next season.
That’s probably best case scenario for the Browns, but reality is, the rookie could play at some point this season.
Whether it’s via injury, or Taylor is struggling, or possibly because the Browns aren’t winning many games.
The Browns starting training camp Thursday, July 24th. Practice will begin 2:30 p.m.. The Browns kickoff the season Thursday, August 9th verse the New York Giants. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. on NFL Network.
