The Browns made a deal earlier in the week for Patriots linebacker Jamie Collins, sending either a 2017 compensatory third-round pick or a 2018 fourth-rounder to the Patriots for his services.
Don’t run out and by a Collins jersey just yet though, as Collins, who is set to be a free agent at the end of the season, may only be here for a short amount of time.
The linebacker has yet to get into any talks with the Browns about a new deal, as Collins’ agent, Bus Cook, says the LB and team have not engaged in any substantive contract talks yet, according to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora.
La Canfora stated that it’s possible discussions won’t take place at all, which is interesting based on what they gave up for him.
At the end of the day, La Canfora does feel the Browns to either re-sign Collins or place the franchise tag on him before he reaches free agency.
The franchise tag would cost the Browns around $15 million, if they decide to go in that direction. At just 27 years old, the Browns should for sure try and make sure they don’t let him walk and get nothing in return.
