The Browns defense took a beating last week in their ugliest loss of the 2018 season to date, losing at home 38-14 to drop to 2-3-1.
The teams’ run defense did not fare well against the Chargers running backs, as Melvin Gordon raced for 132 and three scores, and backup RB Austin Ekeler had 60 yards on just seven carries.
Overall the results for the Browns run defense speak for themselves, as they allowed 246 rushing yards, with the Chargers going for 6.8 yards per carry.
One player who took a lot of heat was linebacker Jamie Collins, as it was well documented on twitter a specific play that went for a Chargers touchdown in which he basically looked like he gave up.
Here’s the play that has a lot of fans upset with Collins:
Exactly how lazy and unmotivated is Jamie Collins? I'm glad you asked! Check out the hustle from #51 here, when he could have easily prevented a touchdown. #Browns pic.twitter.com/QZR09y3XC9

Today Browns defensive coordinator Gregg Williams addressed the media, and was asked specifically about Collins and his (lack of) effort in the game Sunday.
“Jamie is handling a lot of different things,” Williams said.
“All of those [critics], I have no idea – I don’t read any of that stuff. Jamie does a lot. Everybody – it is not just Jamie, it is everybody – we all have to get better at that. We all have to get improved in the areas that we have to improve. Those things have been addressed.”
While Collins wasn’t the only guilty party on Sunday, this Sunday in Tampa brings another test, as the Bucs will host the Browns with an offense that can up up some serious points.
Browns coach Hue Jackson said Friday that all of the linebackers, not just Collins, knows the test that lies ahead, more so playing without Joe Schobert who went down last week.
“I feel good about it. It would be different if we would be playing a player that was not a veteran player, who had not played,” Jackson said.
“Obviously, Kirko (LB Christian Kirksey) has played quite a bit. (LB) Jamie (Collins, Sr.) is still there. When you look at the other rotation of guys, (LB) Genard Avery has played a lot of football for us thus far. Gregg is very creative that way. We will come up with ways to handle not having Joe. Obviously, that is a huge blow, but at the same time, we have some guys that can fill in and play.”
