Another name has been added to the mix in terms of the Browns and their head coaching search, as Wednesday the team sat down with former Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell.
Caldwell, who is 63 years old, coached the Colts from 2009-11, winning the AFC title in his first season but losing to New Orleans in the Super Bowl.
He went to Detroit and in four years went 36-28. He led the Lions to a 9-7 mark in 2017, but was fired after the season.
The Browns are only confirming coaches they have spoken to, and stated that thus far the two coaches that have sat down with GM John Dorsey is Caldwell and defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who went 5-3 as interim head coach after the team canned Hue Jackson with the team sitting at 2-6-1.
Dorsey is also going to sit and chat with offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens, who was promoted from running backs coach to OC after the team fired both Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley.
There’s a number of other names that have popped up for the Browns head coaching spot, including former Packers coach Mike McCarthy, who is scheduled to visit over the weekend.
Saints assistant and TE coach Dan Campbell is also on the Browns list for a chat, along with Patriots LB coach Brian Flores, Minnesota OC Kevin Stefanski and Indianapolis coordinators Nick Sirianni and Matt Eberflus.
