Browns Executive VP of Football Operations Sashi Brown spoke to the media earlier Monday and addressed questions from last week about the teams failure with Bengals QB AJ McCarron and why at 0-8 there’s still positives with this years’ Browns team.
Following Brown’s chat, it was time for head coach Hue Jackson to take the floor in front of the media, but instead of taking on the same questions thrown at Brown, he simply refused.
“I am not going to take any questions about anything that happened here last week,” Jackson said.
“You may try; I am not going to answer, I am going to be very honest with you. What I want to talk about is our football team. We have eight games left to play. Myself and our coaching staff, we came here to win, and we are all accountable to getting that done, trying to win. That is what my focus is and what my staff’s focus is – let’s go find a way to win a game this week.”
Wow.
The coach spoke a lot about Josh Gordon, the returning wide out who the team is hoping might be able to have a positive impact and give them a threat in the passing game.
“A really good player, very physical, very fast, strong, could catch, run every route that we have in our system and can contribute to our football team,” Jackson said of the returning receiver.
He eventually was asked about being comfortable with the relationship between the coaching staff and the front office, where he again didn’t allow much of anything come out in an answer.
“I’m not going to talk about any of those things,” Jackson said.
“I think Sashi addressed all of that. What I’m going to do, like I said, I am going to focus on coaching this football team and getting this team to win, getting our coaches better, getting our players better and find a way to win football games.”
Again, not giving much of an answer, or at least not much of one that sheds any light on the ongoing reported battle between the coaching staff and the front office.
Many think that Jackson is getting the raw end of the deal with this ongoing reported battle, and that he’s been undermined from day one.
The latest story about Jackson pushing hard for quarterbacks Jimmy Garoppolo and McCarron and not being able to acquire them is another indication that he’s not winning this battle or will anytime soon.
So today not answering questions about what Brown had to say isn’t much of a surprise, but it might be an indication for the next eight games it’s Jackson and his coaching staff against the world.
Let’s see who comes out on top.
