Browns Beat Up at Home by the Bolts as Chargers Slam Cleveland 38-14; Five Takeaways

2. Browns Run Defense Torched

Melvin Gordon and the Bolts run game ran all over the Browns in the 38-14 win, amassing 246 yards on 36 carries, an average of 6.8 yards per carry.

Gordon put up the most damage, going for 132 yards on 18 carries (7.3 yards per carry average) with three touchdowns. His longest run was just 16 yards, so the yards came in chunks, and not just one long run.

“He played well today. I’m not sure if it’s the best I’ve seen him play,” Lynn said of his back.

“I mean, I’ll go back and watch the tape, but I love the way he’s running. I’m telling you, he’s inspiring our whole sideline with the way he runs.”

Browns coach Hue Jackson was well aware of the teams’ poor effort in a run game that came into Sunday allowing 116.6 yards per game.

“Did not play very well. On the edges, they were able to exploit it. We had no force set. That team ran the ball for a lot of yards,” Jackson said.

Allowing almost seven yards a carry is not going to win you many games in this league, and it’s an area the Browns better start getting better in ASAP.
