1. Baker Beat Up
It was a rough day for Browns rookie QB Baker Mayfield, who was sacked five times, pressured a lot, and he threw two interceptions to go along with one score.
“We did not execute. We did not do our job. We were not detailed. We did not do the things that we talked about all week,” Mayfield said.
“That is the most disappointing thing. Anytime you do not do your job… I am at fault for majority of that. I am going to be very hard on myself.”
Los Angeles had a great game plan, keeping Baker in the pocket and not allowing him to move around much. It was a gameplan that you can expect other teams will copy as the season moves along.
“We were disciplined in our rush lanes – trying to eliminate his opportunities to escape out of the pocket,” Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said.
“When he leaves the pocket, he is pretty dangerous. I thought we did a heck of a job of that today – containing him in the pocket and getting the sacks. Even when he got out of the pocket, we ran with the receivers and we gave them tight coverage. He had to throw a lot of balls away.”
Mayfield’s day read as follows – 22-for-46 for 238 yards with one TD, two picks, and he was sacked five times in the loss.
