Browns 5 Most All-Time Memorable Wins Against the Steelers

2. Browns 51, Steelers 0, Sept. 10, 1989 at Pittsburgh

This season-opener — and the first game of Bud Carson’s 1 1/2 seasons as the Browns’ head coach — was supposed to be a tight contest. Instead, the Browns embarrassed the Steelers by recovering five fumbles, intercepting three passes and making six quarterback sacks.

Linebackers Clay Matthews and David Grayson scored first-quarter touchdowns by recovering Pittsburgh fumbles and taking them into the end zone: Matthews from three yards and Grayson from 28. Tim Manoa’s 3-yard scoring run and the final two of Matt Bahr’s three field goals boosted the Browns’ advantage to 30-0 at the half.

Manoa scored from two yards and Grayson returned an interception 14 yards for a touchdown and a 44-0 Cleveland bulge after three quarters. Mike Oliphant’s 21-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter finished matters.

Browns cornerback Mark Harper intercepted two Bubby Brister passes and defensive end Carl “Big Daddy” Hairston got two of the Browns’ sacks.
