The Browns visit the St. Louis Rams on Sunday. Most of the memories made in the teams’ series are from decades ago, when the Rams were located in Los Angeles.
The history between the teams is unique. The Cleveland Rams moved to L.A. prior to the 1946 season, the same year of the birth of the Cleveland Browns and the All-America Football Conference. The Cleveland Rams had won the 1945 National Football League championship with a 15-14 win over the Washington Redskins at Cleveland Stadium.
The Browns would win the AAFC title in all four years of the league’s existence. They joined the NFL in 1950 and, ironically, beat the Rams in that season’s championship game.
The Browns are 9-10 in regular season games against the Rams, including 8-7 when the Rams were in Los Angeles and 1-3 since their move to St. Louis in 1995 (and since the Browns returned to the NFL as a franchise in 1999). Cleveland is 2-1 in playoff games against the Rams: all in championship contests between 1950-55, including a 24-17 Browns loss on the West Coast in 1951.
