Brian Sipe hit Reggie Rucker in stride near the back of the end zone for the game-winning 21-yard touchdown pass with 52 seconds left, capping a 76-yard drive.
The Browns had led 20-0 in the third quarter, after Sipe’s first scoring toss to Rucker, for 17 yards, a Sipe-to-Ozzie Newsome touchdown toss of 20 yards and two Don Cockroft field goals.
Sipe completed 19 of 35 passes for 243 yards, with Newsome making six catches for 77 yards and Rucker three for 48. Greg Pruitt ran for 69 yards on 14 carries and caught four passes for 52 yards and Mike Pruitt ran 14 times for 77 yards.
The win made the Browns 2-0 on their way to a 9-7 record, narrowly missing a wild card playoff berth. Kansas City became 1-1 and finished 7-9.
