The Browns host the 49ers on Sunday in a resumption of a rather unique series.
Cleveland and San Francisco joined the NFL in 1950, after both teams had played in the All-America Football Conference in all of that league’s four seasons. In fact, the Browns defeated the 49ers 21-7 in the AAFC’s final game — the championship contest at Cleveland on Dec. 11, 1949. Cleveland won all four AAFC championships.
Including that title game, the Browns won seven of nine AAFC games between the teams. They are 11-7 against San Francisco in NFL games, including two wins in three games since Cleveland rejoined the league as a franchise in 1999. The teams have never met in an NFL postseason game.
